So, you’ve probably heard of the RX 6600M, right? It’s a graphics card designed for laptops, which makes this next part a bit strange. I recently stumbled upon a desktop version of the RX 6600M. Yeah, you read that right – a mobile GPU, somehow, in a desktop card. My curiosity was instantly piqued.
What made this even more tempting was the price. After applying some discount coupons and those handy coin discounts (thanks, AliExpress!), the total came out to around just $120. For a desktop graphics card, even a repurposed mobile one, that’s a steal. I simply couldn’t resist the urge to see what this unusual card was all about. So, I pulled the trigger and bought it.

UNBOXING

And… oops, I already opened it!

The box had a satisfying heft to it, and honestly, I was secretly hoping for a brick.
Disappointingly, it was just the graphics card. My dreams of owning a novelty paperweight were dashed. To add insult to injury, the card itself looked incredibly… ordinary. Another wave of disappointment washed over me.
APPEARANCE

The graphics card even has a backplate, and the heat pipes look to be in perfect working order.
It’s remarkably clean, too – almost like new. Of course, I did buy it new, so that’s expected, but something still feels off.
It genuinely seems like a brand-new, authentic product, not a refurbished or rebadged card, which only adds to the mystery.
PERFORMANCE

First, I installed the card.
The system I used for this test setup includes a B650M PG Riptide motherboard, a Ryzen 7700 CPU, and PUSKILL RAM. For cooling, I’m using a single-fan AIO liquid cooler from a brand called AIGO, which I picked up on AliExpress.

The installation went smoothly without any issues. However, I couldn’t access any tuning options within the Adrenalin software.
Time Spy results were in line with a typical RX 6600, which is to say, pretty much as expected given the circumstances.
Vbios Change
I came across some information online suggesting that performance could potentially be improved by flashing a different VBIOS. Intrigued, I decided to give it a try.

I successfully flashed the card’s VBIOS with one intended for a SOYO RX 6600.
While the flash itself was a success, it created an issue: the automatic frequency scaling for the GPU core is now disabled. This means all frequency adjustments need to be done manually.
OVERALL
This graphics card offers truly exceptional value for its price. Honestly, its affordability alone is a major selling point.
However, there are some drawbacks. Fine-tuning the card is difficult, and the fan control is quite rudimentary: it’s either zero RPM or full blast, nothing in between. This means that after a period at zero RPM, the fans will suddenly ramp up to full speed to cool the card down. There’s no gradual fan speed adjustment.
I’ve been using this card for about a year now, and I haven’t encountered any major issues. It even manages to maintain a steady 60 FPS in Palworld at QHD resolution. At this price, especially if it goes on sale again, I’m tempted to stock up!
